Village of Harrisonburg Service League
Scholarship Program
Scholarships for Service
The Village of Harrisonburg Service League is above all else, a service driven organization. Each year we present $1000 to the two Harrisonburg High School Graduates who exemplify a commitment to volunteerism in their school, churches, and communities.
Students who would like to be considered for one of our scholarships are asked to submit an application when the application period opens in the Spring. Their applications will be assessed through an essay about their work in their school and communities and the information they will be asked to provide on the application form.
Applications are encouraged for any students seeking any post secondary education including college, vocational and technical schools.
Our Scholarships are given in Memorial of two outstanding members of the Harrisonburg Community!
Malcolm Terry
Memorial Scholarship
Mr. Malcolm Terry was a local businessman, worked for the school board and taught high school. He retired as principal at Harrisonburg High School in 2011. In high school he participated in sports and held leadership roles in various activities. After serving his country in the Army, he returned to Harrisonburg and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg. He founded the Harrisonburg Service League and remains an inspiration for much of what we do.
Willie Fair
Memorial Scholarship
Mr. Willie Fair was a dedicated member of the Harrisonburg community, acting as superintendent for the village for 52 years. He was a deacon at the Harrisonburg Christian Assembly where he volunteered in many roles. His hardworking ethos, his mechanical skill and his spirit of volunteerism and community are all characteristics the Service League think exemplify what we hope to encourage in students with our annual scholarship program.
